Compilation of Perl wrapper in Windows

Jimmy
Hello All,

I've been trying to install the Perl wrapper in Windows. I get the error
"Can't build and link to 'openbabel'"
This means that the first step hasn't been completed. I've been trying to fix this but have got nowhere. Anyone have any ideas how to do this in Windows?

Thanks,

Jimmy.

How exactly are you trying to do this? What version of OpenBabel and
what compiler?

I could never get it to work myself.

Re: Compilation of Perl wrapper in Windows

Jimmy
Hey,

Thanks for the quick reply.
I've been trying to do it from the command prompt. I'm using the compiler from visual studio 9.0. i've searched for the libopenbabel.so file, but don't find it.

I assume I'll have to set an environment variable?

does everyone use Linux? I might just switch over for convenience.

Jimmy.

If you can use Linux, that would be the thing to do, as the Perl
bindings work just fine in Linux with the current release. I would
like to get them working also in Windows (and as I said, have tried
before), and hopefully our new build system will help with this
effort. Perhaps when I come around to trying this again, you can help
troubleshoot (?).

BTW, you might find it convenient to do like me, and run a Linux image
under VMWare on Windows. This can be done for free (legally) as
summarised on my blog
(http://baoilleach.blogspot.com/2009/09/running-windows-openbabel-gui-under.html).

Re: Compilation of Perl wrapper in Windows

Thanks Noel,

I assume the java wrapper is the same?

But it still may be more convenient to use VMWare as I working with Perl at the minute.

Doubt I'll be much help for troubleshooting, but I'll help out with anything I can.

Thanks for your help.

Best,

Jimmy Moore.

No - our install page at http://openbabel.org/wiki/Install shows that
on Windows we have Python, Java and .NET working fine. Linux and Mac
have two additions wrappers: Perl and Ruby.
