Summary: Libs install to wrong (?) directory
On Debian Sarge, the CVS version of the OpenBabel 'make
installs' to /usr/local/lib. I think it should be in
(1) there's nothing much else in /usr/local/lib
(2) the python bindings cannot find the
>>> import openbabel
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<stdin>", line 1, in ?
ImportError: libopenbabel.so.1: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory
Without setting some environment variables, Python
doesn't look in /usr/local/lib automatically.
I don't know much about C/C++ development so I cannot
suggest a fix, but this must be a common problem for
all 'make installs' on different Linux distributions.
